12 Roles Actors Regretted

Actors want to do work that they’re proud of. After all, what they do on-screen will outlive them. So when some of them find themselves on a project that they think is artistically problematic or downright humiliating, they’re not ashamed to say it. But do you think these actors should be as upset as they are?

1. When Game-of-Thrones-actor Ian McShane revealed some key plot details from the fantasy drama last year, fans of the show went into meltdown.

“You say the slightest thing and the internet goes ape,” he said. “I was accused of giving the plot away, but I just think get a f*****g life. It’s only t**s and dragons.”

2. Katherine Heigl said she loved working on Knocked Up but wasn’t a fan of its gender politics. “It was a little sexist,” she said. “It paints the women as shrews, as humorless and uptight, and it paints the men as lovable, goofy, fun-loving guys.”

Katherine later apologized for her remarks.

3. George Clooney has never shied away from telling us what he really thinks of the 1998 film, Batman & Robin, in which he played the caped crusader.

“I always apologize for Batman & Robin,” he said. “I thought at the time that this was going to be a very good career move. Um, it wasn’t.”

4. Alec Baldwin signed on to the film adaption of the Broadway musical Rock of Ages because he wanted to work with Tom Cruise and Russell Brand.

Baldwin described the film as, “a complete disaster.” “A week in you go, ‘Oh God, what have I done?” he said. In the film, Baldwin plays a 1980s nightclub owner who doesn’t realize he’s gay.

What other actors have turned on their iconic roles?
